For most of you, my new doll, Julia, was a shock. I never said directley that I was planning on buying her and I did not tell anybody on the internet my plans. However, secretly, I have been planning to get her for the past 2 years. Both times I posted about wanting a new doll, did you notice that she was on the list? And how about my terrifying dream? In that blog post, along with receiving Kanani, I also got a doll with red hair and freckles. I have wanted Julia for years, but I have always resisted buying her, simply because I was afraid. I was afraid that my viewers would think I was spoiled, and that I would be tormented for having so many dolls. However, I have realized something. I am young. This is my life. Nobody else should live it for me. I need to take risks and have fun, so I did what my heart told me to- I bought the doll of my dreams.
I bought Julia at the AGP in seattle a few weeks ago. When I saw her in the case of dolls, I was slightly horrified, because she looked awful. Her hair had been gelled down, and her bangs were plastered on her forehead. She looked like a wet dog. Despite the horrible first impression, at heart I knew she was the one. I took out her card and an employee retrieved her for me. When I got the doll box, I knew right away that she was perfect. Her hair was so beautiful in person, and her freckles- they were precious. I paid 105 dollars in cash and we left the store.
I have no regrets in buying Julia. She is so adorable, and she perfectly compliments the rest of my collection. Some people were worried that she looks too much like felicity, but she does not at all. My felicity doll is very old, so her hair is more brown than red. Julia's hair is strawberry blonde, and she has bangs. Her eyes are hazel, unlike felicity's, which are green. And lastly, she has freckles. <3 I could not wish for a more beautiful doll.
Now for those of you wondering where I got the name, that is also an important element to my decision. My role model this past year was named Julia. She is the strongest person I have ever met, and she inspires me so much. I am really glad that I got to know her personally, and I will miss her when she goes off to collage next year. When I was thinking of a name for my doll, Julia was a clear winner. I like the name itself, and it tells a story.
I am so glad that I bought this doll. I have wanted her for so long, and have no regrets in buying her. I am happy now, because I finally followed my heart.
Now that I have explained, please enjoy this picture of her. It was from my first photoshoot with her, and I already think it is one of the best pictures I have ever taken.
The story behind it all....
In September of 2009, a pre-teen girl named Anna was searching youtube. She no longer used her american girl dolls. they were behind the closet doors, gathering dust. She reluctantly glanced over, then began to type in the search bar: American Girl Dolls. A video came up. She clicked on it. 14 coustumed dolls slid onto the screen and began to dance together, waving their arms and doing cartwheels. Anna was shocked. How could this be possible? This was.... Amazing. She quickly searched a few more. There were hudreds of videos, by usernames like stephenswodadancer, AGlovejess and girloftheyearstudios. Anna couldn't believe it. This new discovery was incredible! She ran to her room and pulled out her two dolls, felicity and samantha. She grabbed her camera. And, she began to film.
It is now four years later. I work on videos almost everyday, usually stopmotions. I have gathered quite a few veiws and subscribers on youtube, and I really appriciate when people comment on my videos. I have come unbelievibly far, but I still leave up those first videos from two years ago, because for me, those are the memories that I will always treasure. I am so happy that I can share them with you.
