Summer 2016 basilmentos videos!

It's summer! The best time of the year. I am back home from college, reunited with my dolls, and ready to film to my heart's delight!

I have already been planning my big summer movie (with the help of my best friend), and today I will hopefully start making costumes. The movie is going to be pretty extravagant, but there are some serious roadblocks to filming.

There are about to be some serious spoilers here. I hate releasing spoilers because people get excited and they create expectations and in this case, I haven't even started filming yet. But Im really stoked to make this movie, and I can't stop thinking about it, and you guys deserve to know what's on my mind!

Anyways, in this movie, two of the dolls need to be able to swim on camera. I was thinking of choosing those two dolls ahead of time and then getting an our generation doll that looks like each of them who I can use for the swimming shots (that way I don't have to feel guilty about getting them wet? I don't know, what do you guys think of that idea? I feel like it could work if the dolls have the same hair color and stuff. (basically, I will have doll stunt doubles!) Underwater, things are pretty blurry anyways, so you probably wouldn't be able to tell.

The movie is also going to have a bunch of water sports scenes where I think it's gonna be really hard to balance the dolls. I was thinking of sailing or windsurfing, since those are the most stable water sports (with something small and tippy like a surfboard or kayak, there is no hope). But I can't seem to find any doll sailboats or windsurf boards for sale that seem legitimately waterproof and hardcore enough to take ocean waves. I might have to build my own doll boat or board, which is a pretty daunting prospect (I don't know how to make it light enough to float while still supporting the doll's weight).

Let me know if you guys have any ideas. I am super excited about this movie, and I really want it to work. Once I jump through some of these hoops, I should be pretty much good to go.

Time to start sewing costumes!!! :D

  1. It's great that you're home from college! Here's what I think....
    1. Og stunt doubles sounds like a great idea, but those dolls have stuffing too, maybe you could use something to replace the stuffing that is waterproof?
    2. Balance does seem like kind of a barrier. One thing that keeps popping up in my mind is Jess's kayak, which is inflatable and could probably float well if you had extra hands on set. Or what about those floatable drink coolers? I don't know really, I'm just brainstorming. Although I know you'll figure something out, and I can't wait to see the summer movie!

  2. I'm looking forward to whatever you come up with! A stunt double is worth trying and underwater filming would be amazing. Once I did a photo shoot at a pool and had a friend under the water supporting a raft with a doll on it, but that was just for a few shot and a swimming pool with no waves. Lots to think about!

  3. Anna, this whole concept for the movie sounds absolutely incredible! I'm already v excited for it to come out haha- but the OG stunt double idea sounds super plausible. As for the water sports equipment, as TheAGCollector101 said, Jess's kayak sounds the most sturdy and safe for the dolls. I'm pretty sure AG released another inflatable kayak sometime around 2009 so that might be another option. But I wish you luck in the whole process of making the film! I can't wait for it to come out!

  4. Hmmm... Green screen is always an option, but it wouldn't look quite as realistic, and the dolls wouldn't be able to interact with the set quite the same way. Whatever you do, I'm excited! As a swimmer myself, I bet I'm gonna like this! Keep us posted!

  7. Yay! Your home! The movie sounds like it is going to be AMAZING!!! (Like everything else you do :)) I like the idea of OG stunt doubles, but balance might be really hard to accomplish. Maybe you could bring some extra skewers to your set, and put those into the water floor, then balance your dolls onto that. This may sound really weird, but to prevent water from getting onto your dolls eyes, maybe you could find some itty-bitty contact lenses, or something clear to cover their eyes? :) I don't know.:) Anyways, I am soooo sooo soooooooo excited for this movie!

  8. I think the OG stunt double idea is AMAZING!! You should do it! So excited for your movie!! Could you maybe do some behind the scenes videos? I think that would be really cool!

  9. I think you could have your friend go underwater and hold the boat and for every photo your friend would move the boat(she would be underwater so you can't see her in the pictures unless you zoom in so you can't see your friend).

  10. That is so cool that you thought to do stunt doubles! I think that would work really well. I love the boat that you made as well :) I'm super excited for the movie

  11. @journeygirlskelsey on Instagram used a PBC pipe to hold up AG's wind sailing board. It was really cool, and I'm sure she would be happy to answer any questions you may have about how she got it to stand up. I'm very excited for the movie Anna! My sisters keep asking me, "has she posted it yet?" 😜

  12. Hello. I am an adult AG collector and enjoy videos made with dolls or puppets. And I wanted to say that your agsm are the best I have seen. As an adult, I don't have much time to do stop motions, but really seeing you, I have been motivated to start doing them again. Also as an adult, I understand all the affort and work you have put into these videos, especially the short movie Lost in Time. I know this must've taken a lot of time and a lot of pics, but you are very talented and should keep on doing this.

  13. I forgot to add... Are you studying film making? Because I think you could be a great film maker. You have talent and creativity.

  14. Hey about the swimming scene, I saw once someone made a swimming scene without wetting the doll. She just photoshopped the doll on top of "the fake water" you could but a transparent vinyl curtain on part of her body to simulate that she is "in" the water.
